'Joint Declaration' signed
Within the context of a high-level visit to our school, the 'Joint Declaration of the Certification of the Saxon Students' Knowledge of Czech on the basis of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages' was signed.
The event was attended by First Deputy Minister and State Secretary Dipl.-Ing. Eva Bartoňová, Director-General for International Relations Jindřich Fryč PhD, Ms. Dagmar Švermová and Consul General of the Czech Republic in Dresden Dr. Krejčíková. The Saxon State Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs was represented by State Secretary Prof. Dr. Staupe, Undersecretary Rechentin and Dr. Streubel, Head of International Relations. Consultant Mrs. Ittermann represented the Saxon Educational Agency Dresden.
In his welcoming speech, Principal Wenzel, OStD, pointed out that by pursuing close contacts during the development of the bilingual project, the Czech representatives have become friends. Addressing the representatives of the Saxon Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs and the Saxon Educational Agency he thanked them for the reliable support for and sustained assistance to the project.
In her words of welcome, Ms. Bartoňová said that contracts are just texts on paper that need to be filled with life. Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium presents precisely that sort of spirited project since there are people who persistently move the project forward. She expressed the wish that the project would maintain this spirit and also expressed her gratitude for the invitation.
After the presentation of the project by the principal, the opportunity for first talks arose. Particular points of interest for the guests were - among others - the attending senior students' views on their education, the demand for places in the bilingual project and the way students are encouraged to take part in it. The guests then visited two classes in their lessons and again took the opportunity to talk with German and Czech students. After that the 'Joint Declaration of the Certification of the Saxon Students' Knowledge of Czech on the basis of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages' was signed.
The visit ended with a tour of the boarding house in Schlossstrasse. The guests were accompanied by Mayor Mr. Flörke.
