London Adventures
In September 2014 we, four teachers and a number of students from class 11, travelled to London. We were all looking forward to 5 days full of amazing activities in and around one of the most famous cities in the world. Even though the journey there was not the most comfortable one, everybody arrived safe and sound.
On Monday we explored “The Tower of London”, after that we got to visit “St. Paul’s Cathedral”, where we climbed a lot of stairs to the top of the dome. But the view was worth the effort and everyone did enjoy it. In the evening we crossed “Millenium Bridge” and while the sun was setting we walked along the Southbank, where some of us took the opportunity to visit the “Tate Modern”. We then went back to our coach and the super nice bus driver drove us to Croydon, a town in the London area where we met our host families. Three to four of us lived with one family, which were very nice. We had dinner and then fell straight into bed (after we asked for the WiFi password of course).
The next day had started with a breakfast in the families and after that we met the others at our coach. Back in London a Tour Guide hopped on and we did an interesting sightseeing tour. She did not only show us the typical sights like the London Eye, the “Shard” or Trafalgar Square, but some of the locations, where the “Harry Potter” movies were shot as well. After that we got separated into two groups. Some of us visited the “London Dungeon” and some of us went to see the wax figures at “Madame Tussaud’s”. In the afternoon we had some freetime until we met up at the Lyceum again. The Lyceum is a theater, where they played the musical “The Lion King”. It was incredible, you felt as if you were in the African savannah and some warthogs and meerkats danced around you. On Wednesday we went to Windsor, where we saw the Windsor castle, an impressive building on top of a hill. Around it you could see the beautiful English countryside in autumn and the building itself was very impressive too. We spend the rest of the day in Eton, a small town with a very famous public school or in Windsor.
Our last day arrived and we had to pack our bags and said goodbye to our host families. The coach took us one last time into to the city centre, where we had an appointment for a guided tour inside the “Houses of Parliament”. It was fascinating to see how different the English seat of government is compared to the German Bundestag. We had freetime for the rest of the day and most of us took the opportunity to buy a few souvenirs or clothes at Oxford Street. In the evening we took the tube back to the coach and our driver drove us back home. It was another 18 hour drive interrupted only by short breaks and a two hour ferry ride.
All in all it was a wonderful trip and everybody had a lot of fun. If you are into those kind of big city vibes and you enjoy travelling I can highly recommend you to visit Britain’s most beautiful city.
