Fourth Saxon Bohemiade in Ostritz
On 24 and 25 September, the 4th Saxon Bohemiade was held in Ostritz near the Polish border. Liesa (9/3), Elisabeth (9/3), Nicole (9/3), Jenny (8/3), Sophie (8/3), Hanna (7/3), Hannah (7/3), Lucy (7/3), Jacob (6/3), Caroline (10/5), Christin (10/5) and Eileen (10/5) from our school took part.
The competition was officially opened at three o’clock on Thursday. Then the participants started with reading and doing tasks about culture. After that, the students in groups A1 and A2 took part in talks with Czech students from Turnov. After supper and a presentation about the monastery, everybody gathered to sing and to play. At ten the students had to be in bed.
The next morning, the second part of the competition started after breakfast. The participants in categories A1 and A2 prepared different types of presentations while those in category B1 were facing their dialog partners for their talking task. After that, they too had to prepare and show their presentations. Until lunch, we sang songs in the common room accompanied on the piano by Mister Heuler. At 12:30 the results of the competitions were announced. In the category B1b, Elisabeth won the first prize, Liesa and Nicole finished second and third. Caroline won first prize in category B1, in which Eileen came in second. Category A2b was won by Sophie and finished second by Jenny. Hannah won the competition in category A1b followed by Lucy and Hanna. The ‘b’ in these categories stands for ‘binational project’ or ‘Slavic speaking background’. The groups were formed according to the criteria of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
At 2 o’clock, all participants left for home either with the group or on their own. All in all, the two-day competition had been a successful event for all participants. We had a lot of fun and would love to to come back for a 5th Bohemiade.
